The Mask’s Weight (Amanda Anastasi)

Artist’s Statement
‘The Mask’s Weight’ is a poem written during the COVID-19 pandemic and during Melbourne 6th COVID lockdown. It explores the idea that wearing a mask is a lesser restriction than the limits we place on ourselves daily.
 

Amanda Anastasi is a Melbourne poet and a recipient of the Wheeler Centre Hot Desk Fellowship and the Ada Cambridge Poetry Prize. In 2020, Amanda was an Assembly for the Future Artist in Residence with The Things We Did Next, writing poetry set in the year 2029. Amanda is currently Poet in Residence at the Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub, where she writes poetry in relation to the climate crisis and ecological issues.
